Its name translates as "Peaceful Red Embroidered Ball" — and the moment you see He Ping Hong Xiu Qiu in full bloom, the poetry of that name becomes immediately apparent. This extraordinary Paeonia rockii cultivar produces blooms of such perfect, rounded fullness that they resemble nothing so much as a magnificent embroidered sphere — a botanical jewel of the highest order.
The Bloom
He Ping Hong Xiu Qiu produces large, densely double blooms in a warm, peachy-pink — a colour that sits beautifully between soft pink and apricot, with a warmth and richness that glows in the spring garden. The petals are packed with extraordinary density into a perfectly rounded, globe-like form that gives this cultivar its distinctive character and its name.
The bloom form of He Ping Hong Xiu Qiu is among the most perfectly structured of all the Rockii cultivars — each flower a near-perfect sphere of layered, ruffled petals that holds its form beautifully throughout its flowering period. At the heart of the bloom, the signature dark Rockii flares provide the characteristic depth and drama of authentic Paeonia rockii.
Warmth and Approachability
Where some Rockii cultivars command through drama or intensity, He Ping Hong Xiu Qiu seduces through warmth and generosity. The peachy-pink colour is one of the most universally appealing in the garden — warm enough to feel welcoming, refined enough to feel luxurious, and distinctive enough to stand apart from ordinary pink peonies.
This is a cultivar that appeals to a wide range of gardeners — from those encountering Paeonia rockii for the first time to experienced collectors who appreciate the exceptional bloom form and warm colour palette.
The Fragrance
He Ping Hong Xiu Qiu carries a beautiful, sweet fragrance — warm and generous, with the characteristic depth of authentic Paeonia rockii. The scent perfectly complements the warm, peachy tones of the bloom, creating a complete sensory experience that is as welcoming as it is beautiful.
In the Garden
The warm peachy-pink of He Ping Hong Xiu Qiu works beautifully in a wide range of garden settings. It pairs harmoniously with apricot and cream roses, warm-toned alliums, and the soft yellows of early summer perennials. It also provides a beautiful warm contrast alongside the cooler pinks and whites of other Rockii cultivars.
The perfectly rounded bloom form makes He Ping Hong Xiu Qiu particularly effective as a cut flower — the globe-like blooms are spectacular in arrangements and last well in water.
